Big Jewelry Companies Predict Next Year’s Trends
-
The recent Las Vegas jewelry shows saw top manufacturers Swarovski and Le Vian both offer their predictions for jewelry trends in 2010.
Le Vian unveiled their predictions on Sunday May 31 at its Red Carpet Revue, its annual event held in collaboration with Harper’s Bazaar.
The trends from the runways of fall 2009 were examined, and Chief Executive Officer of the company, Eddie LeVian, was the man to unveil their predictions for next year.
Le Vian plan to focus primarily on all things green, meaning green-toned gemstones such as beryl, quartz, tsarvorite and alexandrite, as well as green in relation to the environment - such as nature inspired designs featuring butterfly or snake motifs.
Le Vian also recently won the legal rights for the term ‘chocolate diamonds’, and will launch the brown-toned diamonds in the Eddie LeVian signature collection. This intends to be another nature-inspired range of cut-out designs and pieces that best exemplify the upcoming trends. Think chunky chocolate diamonds combining with pave-set and natural rough diamonds, bangles with crossover styling, double-hoop earrings and stacking pieces with an array of motifs such as hearts, knots and paisleys.
When it comes to apparel, Harper’s Bazaar stated that retailers and customers will be going for metallic’s, shades of gray, sheer materials, sequins, stones and other embellishments, cocktail dresses, bright colors, velvet and an exaggerated ‘power silhouette’, with exaggerated shoulders.
The same day saw another big-hitter, Swarovski, present its own vision for upcoming trends in relation to its Enlightened-Swarovski Elements brand.
The brand has its own forecasting service for design trends, known as Gem Visions, and over the last year the panel of experts employed by Gem Visions have determined four ‘mega trends’ that they believe will influence fine jewelry in 2010. These four are ‘False Nudity’, ‘Pure Chaos’, ‘Divine Chimeras’ and ‘Oversized Games’
‘False Nudity’ features light, airy designs that focus on transparency, but are counterbalanced by minute details and are rendered in pastel colors such as sugar-almond tones, salmon pink, olive green and powder blue.
The ‘Pure Chaos’ category contains draped materials, layers and random imperfections that will become design characteristics, hence the ‘Pure Chaos’ label. A mixture of colors and monotones will be used.
‘Divine Chimera’ utilizes mismatched materials, hot reds, oranges and corals and opaque shades of anthracite and brown, to express personal identity, fantasy and escapism.
‘Oversized Games’ can be described as “sculptured, theatrical stylizations of nature”, utilizing extravagantly sculptural, playful forms in shocking acidic colors, juxtaposed with cold, concrete neutrals.
