Eye Jewelry – The Latest ‘Must-Have’ Accessory?
-
We already wear jewelry on our fingers and toes, in our ears, eyebrows, belly buttons, noses and goodness knows where else, - but would you wear jewelry in your eye?For designer Eric Klarenbeek the answer is a resounding ‘Yes’. The Dutchman recently trialed a new range of eye jewelry and after receiving positive feedback has decided to put his range into full production.
But before you start to get too squeamish I should reveal that this does not involve an eyeball piercing. It is actually a clear contact lens, from which a thin piece of medical wire dangles out, complete with tiny flowers, crystals or other accessories.
This crystal jewelry reflects the sunlight and gives the appearance that the wearer has been crying, leading to some people dubbing it ‘tear jewelry’.
The designer claims that the eye jewelry is a lot more comfortable than it looks, and that it does not affect sight. The lens moves with the eye, acts in the same manner as a standard contact lens. A worst case scenario would be someone pulling or knocking the wire, which would lead to the lens falling out or the wire breaking.
Some will love it, others will hate it. But one thing is for sure - it certainly is eye-catching.
