Ruby Engagement Ring
-
The simple ruby ring has always been a favorite with both those buying and receiving it as a token of love, Christmas present or gift for any other special occasion. In recent times, however, this timeless classic has become increasingly popular as an engagement ring.
Although diamonds have historically been the most popular choice for this special item of jewelry, modern brides are embracing the rich red hue of the ruby as their new gemstone of choice. There are a variety of reasons for this change in behavior, with many linking back to couples wanting to break away from tradition and embrace new values. The new trend could also be put down simply to the intense red color of the stone, which has always enticed many admirers.
Unlike the classic piece, which often displays a solitaire ruby on a simple gold ring, in an engagement ring the centre piece is commonly offset with other gems. These additional gems are often diamonds, but Aquamarine, Opal and Peridot also go particularly well with this versatile stone. Two smaller gems can flank the ruby and draw the eye to the centre stone, whilst three or more smaller stones dotted around the band provide a more contemporary look to the piece.
Similarly to many other engagement rings, prong setting is commonly used for displaying the ruby to its beautiful best, either perching the gem upwards above the band or resting it close to the wearer’s finger - but either way, helping to make more of the ruby visible to all that glance at it.
It is perhaps unsurprising that a ruby ring has gained in popularity as an engagement gift. Red is of course the color most associated with romance and affairs of the heart, and the ruby is the symbol of love, making it particularly apt for a piece of this type. Rubies are also extremely durable and strong - hopefully a representation of the long lasting love between the giver and the wearer.
